SIMPLY Cut Your Kids Chance of Being a Victim By 50%–And Yours Too

“Almost 40 percent of American children were direct victims of two or more violent acts, and one in ten were victims of violence five or more times.”   U.S. Department of Justice Archives April 11, 2017

Kids and Being a Victim

One of the better ways to tell if a child is apt to become a victim of crime is by looking at who their friends are. If your child hangs out with malcontents or delinquent types, your child has a much higher probability, perhaps as much as 50% higher, of being a victim of crime. This is a fact that many people have no clue about but criminologists and criminal justice instructors teach about it. So, simple, if you want to keep your kids much safer, keep them away from ‘bad kids’. Who would’ve thunk it!

Scatterbrains and adults

A big reason adults become victims of crime is because they’re scatterbrained. They’re concentrating on tonight’s dinner, tomorrows work schedule, issues with their partners and a labyrinth of other issues as they walk, talk and shop. A great example showing this is what happened to a 54 year old woman while walking to her car from a popular discount store.  While walking, she was concentrating about everything other than walking to her car. She key fobbed her cars door to unlock from about 50 feet away. And then as she opened her front door and slipped into her seat her peripheral vision caught a man slipping into her back seat just as she was doing the same in the front! She never saw the man anywhere near her car as she approached. Of course she didn’t, she had her mind everywhere other than where she was at and what she was doing. Luckily, he was a nonviolent mentally challenged guy instead of a rapist with a knife or a lunatic bent on violence. She screamed and hollered and after a few seconds, he left.

Many men and women have been assaulted and even murdered because they were scatterbrained going to and fro. Adults need to have their attention on where they’re at and what they’re doing while out and about. By simply being more aware and a bit cautious, adults can cut their chances of being a victim of violent crime by as much as 50%.

Anyone with kids and an IQ of at least room temperature should immediately implement who their children should and shouldn’t associate with. And us adults, we need to keep our heads out of the clouds and be smack dab in the present.
