Who are those adults who bully others? Are they the tough guys of the world? Or are they the neurotic insecure folks of the world? Mostly they are the latter but there are some exceptions. Some bullies realize that they’re big and strong and perhaps that they can fight better than the average man. And guess what? They like being special and good at something, like most of us do, and they push that “good” part of themselves. Often times, hurting people. Generally though, secure, strong and tough guys do not bully or assault for no good reason.
Who gets bullied? People who can be bullied, get bullied. What does that mean? Well, most often the people who get picked on by adults are those whom are perceived as being week or submissive and those who won’t do anything when they get picked on. And sometimes when the victim doesn’t do anything or does not fight back that bully gets into a pack-dog mentality (even if he’s all alone) and ups his bullying or physicality and it gets uglier. And let us not forget about alcohol or some drugs that take away inhibitions and help a bully to get “braver” and even wilder. As an example, at a kids soccer game a dad who has had two or three beers and sees a perceived bad call against his child may get wilder or even physical with an umpire or depending on circumstances, an another dad.
So how do nice people not get bullied? There are several options. One is to carry a baseball bat with you whenever outdoors and have a scowl on your face. A look that shows you’ll use that bat against anyone who messes with you! Ha, of course I’m jesting and being that may actually work, it’s not feasible or healthy for us to do so. So, what’s another option?
Learn how to fight. Learn how to protect yourself. You don’t have to become an MMA champ or a black-belt bad ass but learn how to protect yourself against someone who will do you harm. When we learn to even minimally protect ourselves—to fight and kick some ass if needed—it shows, it exudes from us. Bullies or toughs see that and will tend to go to the next guy down the line they feel they can easily control.
It is never bad to learn basic self-defense for men or women. To learn to fight back from those who will harm us or our loved ones is smart and not that difficult. Look for schools and training that is realistic and that will help you to be able to protect yourself. Good schools will make you feel comfortable and not expect you to be some macho man or woman when you come in to learn from them.
If you don’t want to be a victim of bullying or assault, find some good, solid self-defense training. Learn some basic self-protection strategies. Learn to walk with more confidence and learn to help yourself and your loved ones.
