January 1, 2014, A Day That Will Live in Infamy

January 1, 2014, a day that will live in infamy; in New York City anyway. On his very first day in office the New Mayor, Bill de Blasio (D) took the captains seat and is about to steer this ride to an inevitable crash and burn. “We are called to put an end to economic and social inequalities that threaten to unravel the city we love,” de Blasio said after taking the oath as its 109th mayor. “So today, we commit to a new progressive direction in New York.” What is it with these liberals? Everywhere they look all they see is economic and social inequalities. Redistribution of wealth is the answer to everything. What happened to these people? Did they leave the cake out in the rain when they were a child and now feel it necessary to repent from their sins?

The former mayor, Michael Bloomberg, was by no means a conservative or even a center leaning mayor. He made sure no one could smoke anywhere, not even outside in Central Park. God forbid the pigeons got a whiff they may die. He made it illegal to buy any drink larger than a 16 oz soda because you may drink too much and get fat as a horse. He also made certain foods he felt injurious to your health illegal because he felt you were to stupid to manage your own diet.

Who, I say who, is going to protect us from these idiots who feel it their duty to protect us from ourselves? Government is there or should be there, to warn us of potential hazards. They do not exist to think for us and make our own personal decisions. I don’t want to hear the argument that a smoker or a fat person costs the average bleeding-heart liberal to much money, and therefore, they aren’t allowed to be their own person. This is beginning to sound like a script from the old Twilight Zone TV shows. The collective must be protected at all costs. Your liberty stands in the face of the collective. Way to many of your rights and privileges are being snatched away in the name of the greater good.

This country of ours was built around the concept of individual and inalienable rights. Untold lives were lost in wars, so we could be released from the grasp of the Kings. However, now the reasonableness of laws has gone by the wayside in an effort to protect all of us from each other. Individual rights are in jeopardy in the mistaken belief that group rights are the justification for trampling on individual freedoms.

You can’t be a loser in gym class anymore because it is perceived as being harmful to the psyche of an adolescent. No “F” on report cards, it may damage the child’s ego. Do not smoke. Do not get fat. And certainly do not make too much money because the poor slob down the block doesn’t have a pot to pee in.

Get the Government out of my face. The morals you were taught and possess will guide you through life. Your mother and father taught you right from wrong. Get a job, work hard, and take care of your family as best you can. No one has ever said it better then-President Ronald Reagan: “Government is not the answer to our problems; Government IS our problem.”

About Len Azzarone

Len Azzarone, a retired 30 year veteran of a New Jersey Police Department just outside N.Y.C., a man who has seen it all, challenges readers to see beyond the spin of mainstream media, and understand things as they really are. Coming from a paramilitary organization, he cuts through the fog of war using nothing more than the sensibilities of a right-wing conservative. Being ‘politically correct’ is nowhere in his vocabulary or ideology. Within his mind most issues are black and white when the waters are not muddied by liberalism. You will find his writings to be invigorating or infuriating, but at the very least, thought provoking. Not for the faint of heart, a read you won’t soon forget.
